Register NOW for our Winter 2026 Climate Justice Education E-Course for K-8 Educators!
Registration is now open for our online course that will be run in partnership with Accelerating Climate Change Education in Canadian Teacher Education (ACCE-TE) and the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication (EECOM). This online course will offer inspiring learning led by teachers and Climate Change Education (CCE) experts to plan pathways into CCE for Grades K-8 students. It aims to grow teachers’ knowledge and practice of CCE by learning collaboratively with other educators on topics such as socio-emotional learning, Indigenous ways of knowing, climate justice, hope, and age-appropriate climate action.
The Outcomes: This e-course develops Gr. K-8 teachers’ and teacher candidates’ knowledge and practice of CCE while achieving a CCE certificate from the ACCE-TE Project. Eight sessions of the e-course will run from January 21 to March 11, 2026.
E-Course Facilitators: The lead facilitator is Dr. Maria Vamvalis, is an award-winning educator, researcher, and facilitator who brings heart, vision, and over 15 years of experience in education to her work. Her recent doctoral research at OISE introduced holistic climate justice pedagogies – a generative framework that weaves together youth well-being, ecological relationality, and systemic transformation. Maria is a consultant with the Critical Thinking Consortium, focusing on equity, climate and reconciliation in education. She is also the founder of Anayennisi, a field of practice for regenerative work at the intersection of climate, culture, and consciousness. The second facilitator is Kahsenniyohstha Lauren Williams (B.Ed, MA) who is a Turtle Clan Kanyenkehá:ka artist and educator from Six Nations in Ontario. Lauren is a teacher who currently teaches at Prince of Wales Elementary school in Hamilton, Ontario. She is passionate about empowering learners of all ages to explore and deepen their relationships with the natural world through authentic, respectful engagement with Indigenous languages, cultures, and pedagogies which embody meaningful reciprocity with the earth. Sessions will be held in English.
